Not God

Posted by shonatiger

We hold people (and things) to an impossible standard - and we are deeply disappointed when they fail. We want them to be our highest good, to know and meet our deepest longings. To act perfectly at all times. To rise to our maddest expectations. To carry the impossible weight of our internal emptiness.

We demand that they be God.

And when they turn out to have feet of clay, we kick them away in disgust, and go in search of the next thing. Because, maybe this, now, this will be God.
