Psa 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God!
This is one of the verses most quoted in Christianity, and it’s not hard to see why. Life is pretty chaotic, and sometimes it might seem like we are out of control. The bad news is, generally, we are. The good news is, when you are a Christian, it doesn’t matter in the slightest.
How awesome it is that even when we feel inadequate to the task at hand, the Lord is there, lifting us up, carrying us! We can literally stand still and watch Him work to deliver us, which is such a relief to think about when we know we are in over our heads! The context of the verse (or the part of the verse that we use) is how the Lord is our refuge and strength, a present help in trouble (v1).
Psa 46:2 Therefore we will not fear when the earth changes, and when mountains are slipping into the heart of the seas. …
Psa 46:5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved; God shall help her at the turning of the morning. (MKJV)
It is a psalm that brings so much comfort. It doesn’t matter how things look. It doesn’t matter that the ground beneath us may be quaking, and that there are rumours of war. It doesn’t matter that enemies have come against us. Sometimes, especially when we are out of resources, all we need to do is to be still, and watch the Lord deliver us. He is our refuge! There is no need for anxiety- it will all work out in the best way possible. We can believe that.
“Relax”, God says, “and watch Me work.”
Psa 46:9 who makes wars to cease to the ends of the earth; He breaks the bow, and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariots in the fire.
Psa 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God! I will be praised among the nations, I will be praised in the earth.
Psa 46:11 Jehovah of Hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.
(MKJV)

How often I find myself thinking of that verse & heading off to the beauty of creation to try & BE STILL. To feel God's presence around me sometimes requires me to go & find the silence and let Him envelop me in his strength & peace! Thanks for this great reminder my friend!
